As I complete items on my Bucket List, I will be posting pictures/videos/anything I have to show what I've done. Here is the link to the blog with my accomplishments: Finishing My Bucket List

Teacher Training with Ron Clark

I am an Educational Studies and Economics double major at an American liberal arts university. My ultimate goal is to open a series of schools. This is not on my bucket list. However, I do want to add that I would love to open a teacher-training school with Ron Clark, one of my educational heroes. I think it would be thrilling to have be able to send incredibly qualified and passionate teachers into the workforce.

Make a Mocha Frappuccino

Soon after starting college, I really enjoyed coffee. I like it cold, icy, and chocolate-y. Add that to a Starbucks on campus, and you have a girl who loves Starbucks' Mocha Frappuccinos! However, those can get pretty expensive, so I'd love to try to make my own: How to Make a Mocha Frappucino.

Go to an All-Inclusive Resort

I found this while pursuing CNN.com the other day:

10 Budget Friendly All-Inclusive Resorts

All-inclusive sounds veeeeery nice! As does "budget friendly"...I'm looking forward to knocking this one off my bucket list!

Lucid Dream

I've never been very good at remembering my dreams (and the ones I do remember are often veeeery weird). I'd love to both train my mind to remember dreams more often and to be able to lucid dream. Apparently step one is getting a dream journal!

In Progress - Sign Language Song

I want to learn how to do an entire song in  sign language. This might be kind of cheating because I'm already learning "Call Me Maybe," and I want to learn "Drive By," but I need to stay motivated!

Hopefully what I'll look like soon:

Video Clips for Parents

There are a few clips that my parents watch that get them practically on the floor laughing. One day, I'd like to make a video with some of those clips. Here's what I have so far:

Mom:

  • Regis Time Man of the Year "How did we get the Time Man of the Year? Is it me???"
  • Bird in hat in car scene
  • Monk "Fresh Eyes"
Dad:
  • "Just Go With It" sheep rescue scene

Peppermint Shrimp

A long, long time ago, my parents got a saltwater fish tank. They had a little peppermint shrimp that they loved, but soon after they got it, one of the fish in the tank ate their poor peppermint shrimp. My parents were devastated and haven't had a fish tank since.

So, I want to get them a peppermint shrimp that is protected against fish. Most likely, that will mean it will have its own little happy tank/bowl.

In Progress - Six Continents

I'd like to go to all six continents (I know there are seven, but when I'm talking about traveling, Antarctica doesn't quite make my cut). I've already lived in North America and Europe and have traveled to Asia and Africa. All I have left are Australia and South America.

Book Club

I'm kind of interested in starting my own book club. Maybe it could be an online book club.

Go to Massage School

I'm not interested in becoming a massage therapist, I just want to know how to give a really good massage :)

Completed - Write a Letter to My Future Self

In Progress - Donate a Goat

My dad has always joked (at least I'm pretty sure he was joking...) that he wants to retire as a gentleman farmer and raise goats. I have a miniature schnauzer who looks kind of like a goat, so he says he sort of has a goat!

I don't think he actually wants a goat (and certainly not as a gift), so I think the next best thing is to donate a goat through an organization like Heifer in his name as a present. He'd like it because it's helping a family, and it's special to us because it's a goat. Right now, a goat from Heifer is $120, so it'll be a few years before I can actually get him his goat, but I really want to do this for him. I encourage everyone else to donate, as a gift or for yourself, and help somebody in the world.

UPDATE: I was reading through my list earlier and realized that, although this gift would be expensive (especially for a college student), I am still more than able to get him this gift now instead waiting a few years. I think I'll try to get it at least a month before Christmas, just to make sure, and just tell him about it and give him whatever they send me on Christmas Day, so my biggest problem is just making sure I can also get a special gift for my mom this year. *looking at bucket list* Problem solved! I wanted to make my mom (and other family members) a family cookbook, so I've started talking to my relatives about recipes and finding a site from which to print. Let's get this one checked off by the end of 2012!

Cake Decorating Class

I want to take a cake decorating class.

Themed party

I want to throw a big themed party. I have thrown a lot of parties (like Harry Potter and LOTR marathons and Christmas parties), but I want a big, themed one where everyone has fun.

Around the world party: each guest brings food and drink and dresses up in clothes like a particular country.

Vegas: gambling, drinking, dressing in bright and few clothes, sounds like money!

Stoplight: guests dress in red for taken, yellow for confused or it's complicated, or green for single

Daylight savings: spend the extra hour drinking, listening to music, and having fun! 60 songs that are cut after one minute so you know when to take another drink

Seven deadly sins: pride (crowns, awards), greed, lust, envy, gluttony (FOOD), envy, anger, sloth

Luau: leis, Hawaii food, etc - my favorite!

Heaven and Hell: upstairs is all white and gold with fruity drinks, and downstairs has red drinks and fiery decor, people dress up as angels and demons

UPDATE: I recently went to a stoplight party. I was proudly wearing green, and it was pretty fun! Unfortunately, my friend in red did not have much fun because her boyfriend could not attend the party with her, and no one else would ask her to dance because she was taken. I think this may be more fun with people who are more familiar with each other.

Moonlit Dinner for Two

Dinner, beautiful night, candles, music, holding hands, and a big moon overhead, perfect.

Kiss Under the Mistletoe

Not quite Christmas anymore, but a kiss under the mistletoe is so romantic! Preferably with my future husband

Learn to Play the Guitar

I'm a country girl at heart. I can play a little bit of piano - like the Star Wars theme song, feel free to think I'm awesome - but I want to learn to play the guitar. I love to sing, so that would be a great way for me to casually sing and explore music without needing my giant keyboard. I have played a little guitar in the past, so it shouldn't be too hard to pick back up again.

Art of Small Talk

I'd like to master the art of small talk and never feel awkward going up to people to introduce myself and talk. Confidence booster!

Flash Mob

I want to be part of a flash mob!

Watch Quidditch

I want to watch a major (muggle) Quidditch game! Harvard has a team, one of their games could be fun. I'm assuming college games will be the most fun!

UPDATE: My school now has a Quidditch team! One of my friends is on it, so I'll have to ask her to let me know when they have a game.

Visit Mount Rushmore

Completed - Learn Calligraphy

My handwriting is like chicken scratch.

So it'd be kind of nice to learn to write beautifully. I'd like to learn this before I get married so I can write (or maybe just address) my wedding invitations myself! This may even change my normal handwriting to something a little more legible...

Ride an Elephant

Self-explanatory

In Progress - Family Cookbook

UPDATE: I'm planning on doing this as a surprise for my mom, aunt, and grandmas for Christmas this year! Of course, to get the recipes, I'm having to ask them, but I'm at least trying to keep my mom completely oblivious by getting my dad to get me the recipes since I won't be at home until Christmas vacation. Right now, it looks like I'll be ordering from Heritage Cookbook because I can get just a few books for about $6 per book.

My parents, grandmas, great-grandmas, and aunt all have amazing recipes from different sources. My mom as a little box with index cards of many of the recipes, but I'd like to turn it into some sort of cookbook.

It'd be great to have a real book with all of the recipes to send to my family members. It could be a Christmas present for all of my family members! I could just get a few copies, not try to distribute it, and keep it a secret (just tell them I want the recipes), and send it to everyone all at once. I think that would be beautiful and really touching.

In Progress: Finishing My Bucket List

Brazil with my Parents

I want to take my parents on their dream trip. Unfortunately, that would be pretty hard because they travel a lot as is (and go wherever whenever they want), and my mom is an amazing travel planner, and there is no way I could plan a better trip for her.

So instead, I want to take them to Brazil. My dad is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, so he wants to go study there for a while in a relaxed environment (he doesn't want to get incredibly intense with it), and my mom and I could travel around Brazil.

Build-A-Bear

I want to make a Build-A-Bear with someone I love. Cousin, friend, future child, someone I love.

Splits

I want to be able to do the splits. I am a gymnast, and I am starting to get close (at least on my right one), but stretching them makes me incredibly sore! I'd like to get at least my right split perfectly!

Be Kissed on Top of a Ferris Wheel

Of course this can be linked to my other goal of having a real state fair experience!

Cirque du Soleil

I want to see a Cirque du Soleil show. My junior prom was Cirque du Soleil themed, and it was wonderful! I had already heard of them and had seen parts of their show (again this year at the Oscar's), but I want to see a full-length show. Preferably a classic one, not one that's bug themed or anything.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Please, please, please, please, please!!!! I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Probably be best to do this when all the kids are in school, grade school and college. I know it will probably be super busy anyway, but I don't want to be bumping into people the entire time I'm there and waiting in crazy-long lines.

Take an Ethnic Cooking Class

I want to take all sorts of cooking classes, but I think a focus on a particular culture could be fun. Spanish, French...on second thought, I'm thinking Italian! I love Italian food so much, so I'll probably end up in an Italian cooking class.

Bonus points if I can take it in Italy...ooh, interesting!

Oktoberfest in Munich

My mother lived in Germany for a while when she was a kid, but I've never been, so I want to go to Germany for Oktoberfest!

Food, music, fun, and yes, maybe even some beer!

While I'm there, I'd like to explore the country some, too.

State Fair

I want to have a real experience with the state fair! No particular state in mind, nor does it actually have to be a "state" fair, though apparently the fair in the city where I went to high school was excellent, especially for the food. Ferris wheel like "The Notebook," EVERYTHING like in "Grease" (one of my favorite movies, by the way). Games, lights, everything!

Go to India

Two of my closest friends here in college are from India. I want to go to India. I'd love for one or both of them to take me around, but I can go with other tourists, too!

Like with Australia, I don't know where I want to go in India, but I want to see as much as I can.

Go to Australia

When I was little, I traveled a lot and moved around a lot, so I've seen many different countries and cultures. So, the places I ended up really wanting to see were Australia and Japan. I went to Japan as part of a junior ambassadors trip the summer after 9th grade, so the list narrowed to just Australia. Now India is also on the list!

I'm not sure where exactly I want to go in Australia. I'd probably make it a couple-week trip and see everything I can! One of my friends from high school is studying abroad now (his sophomore year of college) in Australia, and he's having a blast with koalas, didgeridoos, skydiving, and the like.

Take a Random Road Trip

"Heads, Carolina Tails, California.Somewhere greener, somewhere warmer.Up in the mountains, down by the ocean.Where? It don't matter, as long as we're goin' somewhere together. I've got a quarter.Heads, Carolina Tails, California."

Thank you, Jo Dee Messina. I want to take a random, spontaneous trip! Anywhere! Just pack a suitcase and head out!

Though a bit more expensive probably, I also wouldn't mind going to the airport and buying the next ticket out, like they do in "Yes Man," and ending up anywhere!

Helicopter Ride

My friend Bryce has a bucket list, too. Along with posing nude for an art class (interesting idea, but I don't think I'm interested enough to actually put it on my bucket list!), he wants to learn to fly a helicopter.

I have very little interest in flying a helicopter, but I do want to fly in a helicopter! Bryce said he'd fly me. So if he learns to fly a helicopter, then I want him to fly me. If not, I just want to fly in a helicopter! I'm thinking somewhere in nature. Grand Canyon, islands, something like that.
